March 15, 2016

HOUSTON – Texas Super Lawyers magazine has named Rachel de Cordova, Jaime Hurley and Marc Matthews from Phelps Dunbar’s Houston office to its 2016 list of Rising Stars.

Ms. de Cordova practices in the areas of tort, commercial, maritime, and energy litigation with a special emphasis in handling complex, commercial litigation; premises, product and toxic tort litigation; and maritime litigation.

Ms. Hurley, who recently transferred to Phelps Dunbar’s New Orleans office, practices in the area of commercial real estate, particularly the acquisition, financing, development and sale of commercial, industrial, office, restaurant, apartment, retail properties and businesses.

Mr. Matthews practices in the areas of admiralty and tort litigation with a special emphasis in defending vessel owners and operators from claims arising under the Jones Act, the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, as well as from claims arising from vessel collisions and cargo damage.

To be named a Rising Star, an attorney must be vetted through independent research on criteria such as professional achievement, excellence in the practice of law, and a high level of peer recognition, and must also be voted on by the legal community. Rising Stars recognizes attorneys either younger than 40 or in practice for fewer than 10 years. Only 2.5 percent of attorneys in a state or geographic area are chosen for Rising Stars.
