Ms. Furr’s practice covers the array of issues that arise in the employment context. She routinely counsels employers regarding compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Equal Pay Act, The Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, as well as state laws involving wages, non-competition, leave, discrimination and retaliation. Ms. Furr also counsels employers in the preparation and review of employment contracts, severance agreements, and employee policies.   

Ms. Furr represents clients in federal and state litigation, as well as in administrative proceedings before the EEOC. She has defended lawsuits involving wages, retaliation, workplace harassment, and discrimination claims based on age, gender, disability, race, national origin, and religion. She has also represented clients in litigation involving other forms of business disputes. Her client representation has spanned many industries, including construction, public utilities, package and freight delivery, financial services, fueling, gaming, industrial equipment, insurance, real estate, retail, software/technology, educational institutions and governmental agencies. 

Ms. Furr serves as the practice coordinator of the Baton Rouge employment law group. She often speaks on behalf of management interests on employment related topics and frequently provides training to local and national clients on compliance issues under federal and state law.

Experience

  • Representation of a national package delivery company in federal court cases involving Title VII, ADA, ADEA, and retaliation claims that were dismissed in the client’s favor
  • Representation of a gaming client in a federal action involving a Title VII retaliation claim through trial and successful appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
  • Representation of a government agency and high-ranking officials in a case involving claims of discrimination, retaliation, and civil rights violations that was dismissed in client’s favor
  • Representation of a university and five high-ranking individuals in a federal court action involving defamation, retaliation and other state law claims, which was dismissed in the client’s favor
  • Representation of a construction/engineering company in federal court case involving discrimination claims by multiple plaintiffs, resulting in a favorable resolution for client
  • Representation of a natural gas provider in a federal court case involving a discrimination claim resulting in a judgment in the client’s favor that was affirmed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
  • Representation of a national company in an ongoing federal court action involving a multi-party business dispute wherein the claims exceed $7 million.
  • Representation of a Fortune 500 company in an ongoing federal court action involving disability and national origin discrimination claims
  • Representation of numerous private and public employers in defense of EEOC charges of discrimination and retaliation that have been successfully dismissed in the clients’ favor
