Ragan Richard practices in the area of corporate business, real estate and finance. He focuses in the areas of commercial transactions; agricultural, corporate and franchise law; real estate; finance; mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; and corporate governance.
Mr. Richard represents individuals, small and large companies, developers, franchisees, and underwriters, and leads legal teams in the acquisition, financing, development, operation and sale of commercial, industrial and agricultural properties and businesses.
His practice includes representation of banking and lending institutions and borrowers in financing transactions, drafting and negotiating contracts, leases, and servitude agreements, acquiring and developing real estate and commercial business establishments, representing owners of large franchise chains, representing owners of multifamily apartment complexes and hotels, representing utilities, agriculture and marketing cooperatives and trade associations, representing industrial clients in all phases of project development, construction and operations, drafting and enforcing subdivision and condominium restrictions for highly regulated developments, entity and joint venture formation, general counseling of both established and emerging businesses, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, and debt and equity financing and restructuring.
Mr. Richard serves as general counsel to many of his clients and assists them, with the help of other experienced Phelps Dunbar attorneys, in developing and executing their business strategies. He has the privilege of representing a diverse group of clients, learning about their business and assisting with its growth and progress. His background in biomedical engineering helps him address business challenges and find creative solutions. He considers the friendships developed with his clients as one of his practices greatest rewards.
Mr. Richard also serves as the managing partner of the Baton Rouge office, as a member of the firm’s Policy and Planning Committee and as chair of the firm’s Operations Committee.
