In the Summer 2005 issue of Minority Law Journal and the April 2005 issue of Multicultural Law Magazine, Phelps Dunbar was recognized as a national leader among law firms for diversity.
According to Minority Law Journal, Phelps Dunbar has the second highest percentage of African-American lawyers (8.3%) among the 260 largest and highest-grossing law firms in the United States. The survey was based on data collected by The National Law Journal as part of its census of the country’s 250 largest firms, in addition to data from ten firms that made The American Lawyer’s AmLaw 200. A total of 244 firms, the most ever, provided minority statistics as of September 2004. Phelps Dunbar has been ranked among the top three firms in this category the past four years, with the highest percentage of African-American lawyers in 2002 and 2004.
Phelps Dunbar was also recognized in the April 2005 issue of Multicultural Law Magazine, which ranked the firm in the following diversity categories: 31st out of the Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity, 2nd out of the Top 25 Law Firms for African Americans, 17th out of the Top 50 Law Firms for Women, and 34th out of the Top 50 Law Firms for Associates.
