Philip deV. Claverie Appointed Honorary Consul of Finland in New Orleans
Phelps Dunbar is pleased to announce that Philip deV. Claverie, a partner in
the New Orleans Business practice group, has been appointed Honorary Consul
of Finland in New Orleans, with jurisdiction in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.
His duties will include strengthening the economic and cultural ties between
Finland and the three states, and assisting resident and visiting Finns in the
area. Mr. Claverie also hopes to increase visibility of Finnish industries,
including design and furniture manufacturing, heavy equipment and technology
(Nokia, which is the largest Finnish company, sponsors the Sugar Bowl).
The appointment was made by the Finnish Foreign Ministry following his nomination
by Jack Weinmann, former United States Ambassador to Finland in the early 1990s.
