1996
Firm forms the New Orleans Employment Law group and partner M. Nan Alessandra becomes the first female practice coordinator.

1997
Anderson is elected President of The Mississippi Bar.

1998
Firm grows to more than 200 attorneys and 90 partners.

2000
Firm expands with the opening of the Gulfport, MS office.

2001
Firm expands with the opening of the Tampa, FL office under the direction of firm partner Lawrence P. Ingram.

Fred L. Banks, Jr., former Presiding Justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court, joins the firm's Jackson office as a partner.

2003
Phelps Dunbar celebrates its Sesquicentennial Anniversary - 150 years of service.

2004
Baton Rouge office, first regional location, celebrates 20th anniversary

2005
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastate coastal Louisiana and Mississippi, temporarily closing the New Orleans and Gulfport offices.

2006
Shirley, Ezell, Guarisco & Marionneaux, LLC joins Phelps Dunbar, expanding the firm’s ability to serve clients in industries such as electricity, petroleum and natural gas distribution, communications and transportation. One month later the firm expands again with the addition of Terriberry, Carroll & Yancey, LLP, which produces an admiralty group with internationally recognized breadth of service and depth of experience.
