Firm expansion begins with the opening of the Baton Rouge,
LA office under the direction of firm partner H. Alston
Johnson, former Professor of Law at Louisiana State University.
Reuben V. Anderson becomes first African-American Supreme
Court Justice in Mississippi - joins the firm as a partner
in 1991.
Phelps Dunbar expansion continues with the assimilation
of the Jones, Mockbee, Bass and Hodge law firm in Jackson,
MS. Former University of Mississippi Professor of Law, E.
Clifton Hodge, Jr., is the office managing partner.
Due to a substantial increase in matters being handled for
European clients, the firm opens an office in London, England.
Firm opens the Tupelo, MS office under the direction of
partner F. Mike Bush, III, who is outside counsel to the
largest hospital system in Mississippi. With a presence
in Tupelo and Jackson, Phelps Dunbar becomes one of the
largest law firms in Mississippi.
Weinmann appointed U.S. Ambassador to Finland.
Firm expands with the opening of the Houston, TX office
under the direction of firm partner Kent E. Westmoreland.
President Bush appoints firm partner Harry Rosenberg as
U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Firm partner George "Bunky" W. Healy, III is elected
President of the Maritime Law Association of the United
States.
Firm partner Harry S. Redmon, Jr. steps down from firm management
after more than ten years as Chairman of the Policy and
Planning Committee. Two years later, the firm and Louisiana
State University Law Center establish the Harry S. Redmon,
Jr. Professorship.
