NEW ORLEANS

Our New Orleans office maintains a key presence each year in the Preservation Resource Center's annual Rebuilding Together (formerly Christmas in October) event. Dedicated to preserving historical buildings and restoring blighted homes in the metropolitan area, Rebuilding Together brings volunteers together to assist lower income individuals in creating their dream homes. Events of this nature give our New Orleans personnel an opportunity to work with one another outside of the office, while enhancing the community in which we live.

In addition, the firm has been a major sponsor for several years of the Children's Hospital Sugarplum Ball, which raises funds for one of the Gulf South's leading pediatric medical centers. For example, proceeds raised at the 2002 ball helped fund the extensive renovation and expansion of the Jack M. Weiss Emergency Care Center; 2001 funds purchased new heart monitors for the Michael Jeffrey Lupin Pediatric Intensive Care Unit; and 2000 proceeds were used to support Rehabilitation Services.

Concern about issues facing children is also evident in the firm's participation in various Junior Achievement initiatives every year, particularly the elementary, middle, and high school educational programs. Based on outstanding service to the organization's mission, Phelps Dunbar was named to Junior Achievement's "1998 Honor Roll" of businesses in the greater New Orleans area.

Phelps continues the work started with students in Junior Achievement by sponsoring MetroVision, a partnership of business, education, labor, government, and civic organizations working together to create jobs in the New Orleans metropolitan area. The MetroVision alliance strives to bolster the local economic community with the hope that students who have developed an early interest in business and economics will have the opportunity to apply their skills locally.

New Orleans personnel also take part annually in the Cystic Fibrosis Sports Challenge to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis, as well as the Louisiana State Bar Association Secret Santa program, which provides Christmas gifts to disadvantaged children in the New Orleans area. Also, the firm was a major sponsor in 2001 of the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk to raise money for research and a cure.
