Phelps Dunbar hires highly motivated law students with outstanding academic records and diverse interests. The firm recruits from law schools in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and Texas, as well as other major law schools around the country. In addition, throughout the year, we hire a number of lateral attorneys who have relevant experience in one or more of our practice areas. In recruiting both law students and experienced attorneys, we are interested in individuals who are bright, motivated, and committed to developing their legal skills, as well as growing as professionals.
Phelps Dunbar prides itself as a leader in minority recruitment. The firm actively recruits at the Southeastern Minority Job Fair, formerly the Louisiana State Bar Association Minority Job Fair, the Tulane University Diversity Clerkship Program, and on campus at schools throughout the United States, including Thurgood Marshal School of Law, Southern University School of Law and Howard University School of Law. Phelps Dunbar has been a participant in the Southeastern Minority Job Fair since the program's inception. Likewise, we have participated in the Louisiana State Bar Association Minority Job Fair for more than ten (10) consecutive years. Phelps Dunbar has participated in the Tulane Diversity Clerkship Program since spring 1998. In conjunction with the Tulane University Diversity Clerkship Program, we host a reception at the firm where partners from each practice group make presentations to the students on their respective practice areas. These collective efforts provide summer clerkship opportunities for first- and second- year minority law students.
