Two Phelps Dunbar Attorneys Receive the New Orleans CityBusiness Leadership in Law Award

Phelps Dunbar attorneys M. Nan Alessandra and Tracey Flemings-Davillier were selected by New Orleans CityBusiness as recipients of the 2008 Leadership in Law award. They were recognized at an awards luncheon in New Orleans on March 18, 2008. Fifty attorneys from the greater New Orleans area were selected for the honor based on their skills as attorneys and their accomplishments in the community.

Ms. Alessandra is a partner and the practice coordinator of the employment law group in the New Orleans office. She practices in the areas of labor and employment, civil rights, constitutional law, consumer credit litigation, and general business litigation. Ms. Alessandra was the firm's first female practice coordinator, and has served in this role since the inception of the employment group in 1996. She is a 2007 graduate of the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute, which honored her as one of the business, civic and community leaders from the 10-parish region. In addition, she has been appointed the Second Vice President of the New Orleans Bar Association (NOBA) for the 2008-2009 bar year. Ms. Alessandra was also recently appointed by United States District Judge Carl Barbier, President of NOBA, as Chair of NOBA's Labor and Employment Law Committee and NOBA's CLE Committee. She currently serves on the board of directors of the Federal Bar Association and is a Fellow in the Louisiana Bar Foundation. Ms. Alessandra has received numerous honors for her legal work, including the "AV" rating by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest possible rating for legal ability and ethical standards. She has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America from 2003-2008. She is also among a select group of employment lawyers listed from 2003-2007 in a national client survey published in Chambers USA, America's Leading Lawyers for Business.

Ms. Flemings-Davillier practices in the insurance and reinsurance regional practice group in the New Orleans office. She focuses in the area of insurance coverage counseling and litigation. She holds leadership roles in both community and professional organizations, such as serving on the Board of Directors of the Contemporary Arts Center. Ms. Flemings-Davillier is a member of the Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, Louis Westerfield Legal Society (1997-1999 President-Elect and 1999-2001 President), and the Federal Bar Association. In addition, she serves on the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, and is a member of the board's Hearing Committee. Ms. Flemings-Davillier has been recognized by many organizations for her efforts. She is a member of the Young Lawyers Section for the Louis A. Martinet Society, which honored her with their 1997-1998 Leadership Award. She received the Distinguished Service Award in 2004 and 2005 as a Volunteer Attorney for the New Orleans Pro Bono Project - Child in Need of Care Program and the Gillis Long Poverty Law Center Award from the Loyola University School of Law in February 2005.
