Phelps Dunbar Attorneys Recognized in Florida Super Lawyers and Florida Trend's "Florida Legal Elite"July 01, 2009Phelps Dunbar attorneys in the firm's Tampa office have been recognized in the 2009 issues of Florida Super Lawyers and Florida Trend magazine's "Florida Legal Elite." Florida Super Lawyers magazine named several Phelps Dunbar attorneys as outstanding lawyers in Florida for attaining a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Super Lawyers magazine names attorneys in each state who received the highest point totals, as chosen by their peers and through the independent research of Law & Politics, which performs a complex and thorough polling, research and selection process from which the top five percent are identified. The following Phelps Dunbar partners were named "Florida Super Lawyers" for 2009: Karl J. Brandes is recognized in the areas of General Litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Government/Cities/Municipalities. He is a partner and the practice coordinator of the firm's commercial litigation practice group in the Tampa office and a member of the firm's regional commercial litigation practice group. His litigation practice includes petroleum marketing, other trade regulation, class action, environmental, computer, construction, condominium, personal injury including insurance and self-insured defense, toxic tort, product liability, landlord and tenant disputes, and other real property. Lawrence P. Ingram is recognized in the areas of Business Litigation, Insurance Coverage and Professional Liability: Defense. He is the managing partner of the Tampa office and a member of the firm's regional commercial litigation practice group. He practices primarily in insurance coverage, professional liability, securities, restrictive covenents and trade secrets. Harvey S. Kauget is recognized in the area of Intellectual Property. He is a partner in the firm's regional business practice group. He practices in the area of intellectual property litigation, focusing primarily upon patent litigation, where he covers a variety of technologies. Dennis M. McClelland is recognized in the areas of Employment & Labor and Employment Litigation: Defense. He is a partner in the firm's regional employment law practice group. His practice focuses on representing employers in almost all aspects of labor and employment law. He is a Board Certified specialist in labor and employment law. John D. Mullen is recognized in the area of Employment & Labor. He is a partner in the firm's regional employment law practice group. His practice includes a joint emphasis in labor and employment law and in securities litigation and arbitration. John E. Phillips, Jr., is recognized in the areas of Employment & Labor and Employment Litigation: Defense. He is a partner and the practice coordinator of the labor and employment group in the Tampa office and a member of the firm's regional labor and employment practice group. He represents employer clients in labor and employment matters throughout the state of Florida, and regularly appears in Florida's state and federal courts. Seth M. Schimmel is recognized in the area of Construction Litigation and Business Litigation. He is a partner in the firm's regional commercial litigation practice group. His practice is devoted primarily to construction and commercial litigation, and he also has substantial experience in drafting and negotiating construction contracts and counseling owners, developers, engineers, and contractors on their administration. Super Lawyers magazine also names "Rising Stars" attorneys who are the state's top up-and-coming attorneys 40 years old or younger, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less. The following Phelps Dunbar attorneys were named "Florida Rising Stars" for 2009: Jolee Land is recognized in the area of Employment & Labor. She is a former Phelps Dunbar partner now serving as special counsel in the employment law group in the Tampa office. Her practice includes assisting clients in responding to pre-suit charges of race, sex, national origin, and disability discrimination filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Florida Commission on Human Relations. William J. Podolsky, III, is recognized in the areas of Real Estate, Business/Corporate and Business Litigation. He is an associate in the firm's regional business practice group in the Tampa office. His real estate experience includes all aspects of acquisition, development and disposition of commercial, agricultural, mixed-use and residential real estate. In addition, Florida Trend magazine also recognized Dennis M. McClelland and John E. Phillips (see practice descriptions above) as a part of the 2009 "Florida Legal Elite," a select group comprised of only the top two percent of lawyers practicing in Florida. The "Florida Legal Elite" selection process began with notifying and inviting members of The Florida Bar to participate in a balloting process. Nominators were asked to provide the names of Florida lawyers they hold in the highest regard, through working with them personally or recommending them to others. Nominators were allowed to cast only one vote and could not vote for themselves. These nominations were then counted by an independent research firm, and a panel of lawyers reviewed and selected those lawyers who received the most votes.
