Phelps Dunbar Attorney Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Phelps Dunbar LLP is pleased to announce that Fred M. Bush, Jr., of counsel in the firm's Tupelo, Mississippi office, has been honored with The Mississippi Bar's 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented at the Bar's 2008 Annual Meeting, which was held in Sandestin, Florida from July 16-19, 2008.

The Mississippi Bar presents the Lifetime Achievement Award to those individuals who have devoted service to the public, profession and the administration of justice over the span of a professional career. Only individuals who have contributed significantly to the system of justice and/or to our legal profession are qualified to receive this award.

Mr. Bush, a litigation and alternative dispute resolution attorney, has actively served in professional associations his entire career. He is a fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation and served as Chairman in 1978. Additional association memberships and leadership positions include The Mississippi Bar (President 1986-1987); The Lamar Order (Chairman 1984-1985); Lee County Bar Association (President 1969-1970); First Judicial District Bar Association (President 1974-1975); American Bar Association (Member, House of Delegates, 1986, 1989-1990); Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association (President 1973-1974); Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel; Association of Insurance Attorneys; American Counsel Association; American Arbitration Association; and Rotary Club (President 1954-1955).

Mr. Bush has also been active in public service throughout his career. Mr. Bush was the Executive Director of the Mississippi Agricultural and Industrial Board from 1960 to 1961 and served on their board of directors from 1961 to 1968. He was also a member of the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway Development Authority from 1980 to 1984. In addition to his legal practice and public service, Fred served in the United States Navy during World War II where he was on destroyer duty. He was Commanding Officer of the USS Kidd from 1945 to 1946 and retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve with the rank of Captain.

This is the second consecutive year that a Phelps Dunbar attorney has been honored with The Mississippi Bar's Lifetime Achievement Award. Reuben V. Anderson, a senior partner in the firm's Jackson, Mississippi office received the award in 2007.
