The Federal Circuit has affirmed a ruling in favor of SP Plus Corporation (“SP Plus”) by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The suit involved two parking boot patents that were ruled invalid under the U.S. Supreme Court’s Alice standard for claiming only abstract ideas.
Partner Chris Ralston commented, “We’re very pleased but not surprised that the Federal Circuit affirmed the district court’s ruling, which validated SP Plus’ position.”
In September, SP Plus earned a victory over IPT, LLC d/b/a Paylock (“Paylock”) after it threatened SP Plus with a patent infringement action related to the client’s use of self-release parking boots in New Orleans. To view a full breakdown of the September cases’ details, click here.
