Phelps Dunbar Partner Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Phelps Dunbar LLP is pleased to announce that Reuben V. Anderson, a partner in the firm's Jackson office, was presented The Mississippi Bar's 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award. Judge Anderson was honored during The Mississippi Bar's 102nd annual meeting Farewell Brunch and Awards Program on Thursday, July 14, 2007 in Destin, Florida.

The Mississippi Bar presents the Lifetime Achievement Award to those individuals who have devoted service to the public, profession and the administration of justice over the span of a professional career. Only individuals who have contributed significantly to the system of justice and/or to our legal profession are qualified to receive this award.

Judge Anderson, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice in Mississippi, practices in the areas of commercial litigation, regulatory and governmental matters and gaming. In addition to his work with Phelps Dunbar, he has cultivated a professional resume spanning three decades of legal service. He has held many key positions including: Jamie L. Whitten Chair of Law and Government at the University of Mississippi, Fall of 1995; Mississippi Supreme Court Justice, 1985-91; Circuit Court Judge for the 7th Circuit Court District, 1981-85; County Court Judge for Hinds County, 1977-81; Municipal Judge for the City of Jackson, 1976-77; Partner, Anderson, Banks, Nichols & Stewart, 1968-77; Mississippi Associate Counsel, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., 1967-75. Judge Anderson is also among a select group of lawyers, recognized in the category of Litigation: General Commercial, listed in a nationwide client survey published in Chambers USA, America's Leading Lawyers for Business.
