Phelps Dunbar Partner Named to Baton Rouge Business Report's “Forty Under 40”

Phelps Dunbar LLP is pleased to announce that Kelsey K. Funes, a partner in the litigation group in the Baton Rouge office, has been selected by the Baton Rouge Business Report as a winner of their 2007 Forty Under 40 award, which "honors forty of Baton Rouge's most dynamic young business leaders who share a commitment to professional excellence, the community and who are under the age of 40." Ms. Funes and the other winners were honored at the Forty Under 40 awards reception, hosted by the Business Report on November 28, 2007. Ms. Funes' practice includes commercial, construction and insurance litigation. Her practice is a regional one, which extends to both federal and state courts and includes work in both the district and appellate courts. Kelsey has also successfully represented numerous clients in both mediation and arbitration in Louisiana, as well as other parts of the United States.

Ms. Funes is active in professional associations and the Baton Rouge community, serving on the Board of Directors for both the Baton Rouge Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction and the Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area. She also serves as the 2007 Vice President of the Federal Bar Association's National Young Lawyers Division and as the Director at Large for the Baton Rouge Chapter of Executive Women International. In addition, she is an active member of the Security Devices Committee of the Louisiana State Law Institute.

In recognition of the impact she has had on the community, she was named to the 2006 Class of Leadership Greater Baton Rouge, an initiative of the Greater Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce that seeks out, trains, and promotes high achievers for positions of voluntary responsibility in the community. She also received the Louisiana State Bar Association's 2007 Outstanding Young Lawyer Award, which recognizes a young lawyer who has made exceptional contributions to the legal profession and the community.
