Phelps Dunbar Partner Named to Baton Rouge Business Report's “Forty Under 40”

Phelps Dunbar LLP is pleased to announce that Jeffrey M. Barbin, a partner in the business group in the firm's Baton Rouge office, has been selected by the Baton Rouge Business Report as a winner of their 2009 Forty Under 40 award. The award "showcase[s] men and women under the age of 40 who are influencing decisions, capturing the entrepreneurial spirit and balancing bottom-line results with involvement in community and charitable activities." Mr. Barbin and the other winners were honored at the Forty Under 40 awards reception, hosted by the Business Report on December 3 in Baton Rouge. Mr. Barbin's practice consists of business transactional and regulatory matters with emphasis on casino gaming transactions. In particular, he focuses on gaming transactions requiring local gaming regulatory approvals and other complex transactional and regulatory matters, often working closely with the firm's gaming lawyers in Mississippi to achieve efficiencies for the client in both jurisdictions. In this context, he has represented casino operators, management, investors, lenders, manufacturers and other vendors in their Louisiana gaming regulatory matters. Mr. Barbin's practice has also involved complex commercial real estate transactions, representing lenders, and developers in acquisitions, development matters, divestitures, and commercial loan closings. He has previously worked on the development of Louisiana banking forms, business entity formation, stock sales and entity mergers, alcohol licensing and other general business matters. He has been a guest lecturer in an office practice course at LSU Law School.

Mr. Barbin is a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association, the American Bar Association and Forum 35, and he serves on the Sacred Heart School's Advisory Board, Finance Board, Strategic Planning Committee and co-chairs the school's "Continuing Our Legacy Campaign."
