Phelps Dunbar Attorneys Recognized in the Tampa Community

Two Phelps Dunbar attorneys, Karl J. Brandes and Kamilah L. Perry, receive honors in the Tampa community.

Karl J. Brandes, a partner in Phelps Dunbar's regional commercial litigation group, received a 2008 Pro Bono Service Award from Hillsborough County Bar Association and the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit's pro bono program, H.A.V.E. A Heart, in recognition of the numerous pro bono cases he has handled over the years on referrals from Bay Area Legal Services, Inc., Hillsborough County's only legal aid program. On March 13, 2008, award recipients were honored for their exceptional pro bono contributions at the first Pro Bono Service Awards Ceremony held at the George Edgecomb Courthouse. The attorneys receiving recognition provided free legal services to indigent Hillsborough County residents through their participation in a variety of organized pro bono projects.

Kamilah L. Perry, an associate in the firm's regional insurance and reinsurance group, will receive the Volunteer Leadership Award at Tampa Bay Academy of Hope, Inc.'s 12th Annual Harvest of Hope Awards Banquet on June 21, 2008, at the A La Carte Event Pavilion. The Harvest of Hope Awards Banquet honors individuals and companies that have made a difference in the lives of children and families in Tampa through their contributions, civic efforts or direct involvement in the community.

In addition, Ms. Perry has been elected President of the George Edgecomb Bar Association for the 2008-2009 bar year. The George Edgecomb Bar Association is Tampa's largest predominately African-American voluntary bar association, which is dedicated to the promotion and recognition of African Americans within the legal profession and the judiciary.
