Phelps Dunbar Attorney Recognized as One of Houston's "Top Lawyers"

Peri H. Alkas, counsel in the firm's Houston office has been recognized as one of Houston's "Top Lawyers" in the June 2009 issue of H Texas Magazine. Over 5,000 Houston area attorneys receive ballots to nominate fellow attorneys as "Top Lawyers" in Houston. Once the ballots are tallied, H Texas Magazine researches each attorney in the categories of state bar licensing, disciplinary action, years in practice, education and awards earned. The attorneys are then ranked based on the above criteria and the top 4% are recognized as Houston's "Top Lawyers."

Ms. Alkas practices in the firm's insurance and reinsurance regional practice group. Her experience includes first-party claims, insurance bad faith and extra-contractual litigation. She often provides insurers with complex claims-handling advice, coverage opinions and guidance concerning Texas insurance statutes, and has considerable litigation experience, having taken over 65 civil and criminal cases to trial.

Ms. Alkas is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association, Texas Women in Law, National Association of Women in Law, and The Defense Research Institute. She is licensed in Texas and is admitted to practice in all of the U.S. District Courts for Texas and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
